Meet Neyra Agent: The Brain Behind the Film

Three years in, the studio's flagship orchestrator turns a single sentence into finished cinema — and keeps thinking long after the credits roll.

Meet Neyra Agent: The Brain Behind the Film

BALI — On a humid evening last autumn, Roma Nebo sat at his desk and typed a single sentence into a quiet terminal: "A documentary about the last warden of a forgotten temple."

Forty minutes later, the screen returned a 4K assembly. Story beats. Storyboards. A casting deck. A score brief in 5/8. Camera blocking for nine scenes. Color references pulled from three different decades of Indonesian cinema. Every frame mathematically consistent. Every file exported in ACES, 16-bit, ready for the timeline.

The system that produced it has a name. It is called Neyra Agent, and it is the closest thing the cinema industry has yet seen to a single intelligence that can run a film from idea to delivery.

A different kind of creative engine

Most AI tools in the film space behave like assistants. They generate an image, write a scene, suggest a cut. They sit beside the filmmaker.

Neyra Agent does not sit beside anyone. It runs the room.

"The way we built it is fundamentally different. Other systems are nodes — you connect a model to a model to a model, and you hope it doesn't break. We didn't want nodes. We wanted a brain."
— Roma Nebo, Founder, Neyra Labs

That brain is what makes the difference. Neyra Agent doesn't wait for instructions. It reads the brief, identifies the gaps, and starts asking its own questions — Who is the protagonist? What does she fear? What does she want at minute 11? Why doesn't scene 6 earn its emotional weight yet? Then it answers them, generates the artifacts, runs quality checks, and exports.

It isn't generative. It's directorial.

What Neyra Agent actually does

In a single continuous pipeline, the system covers:

  • Story — logline, treatment, three-act structure, character arcs, emotional curves
  • Script — formatted screenplay with continuity tracking and dialect logic
  • Storyboard & moodboard — frame-accurate, lit, composed
  • Character work — deep psychology, costume logic, motive, voice
  • Camera — shot list, lens choice, angles, golden-ratio framing math
  • Score & sound — tempo, key, instrumentation brief, emotional cue points
  • Production — Magic Camera blocking, micro-shots, super-shots, hero performance
  • Post — smart edit, ACES color, sound design, VFX compositing, 4K / 8K render
  • Delivery — multi-format publish to cinema, streaming, reels, vertical, social

All of it runs through one continuous brain. No node graphs. No twelve open browser tabs. No exporting JPEGs from one tool to manually import them into another.

"Today, if you want to make a serious AI film, you're juggling fifteen products. Half of them don't talk to each other. The output isn't broadcast-ready. There's no math behind the frames — they just look okay. We solved that. The math is real. The containers are 16-bit. The ACES is real ACES. A colorist can open our render in DaVinci and grade it. That has never existed in this category before."

Three years to a brain

Neyra Labs has been building toward this moment since 2023. Long before the public conversation about AI in cinema, the team was quietly doing R&D across Bali, Jakarta, Tbilisi, and São Paulo — submitting work to festivals, learning what broke, rewriting the pipeline. Again and again.

Earlier this year that work paid off in the loudest possible way. At the Cannes Film Festival's AI selection, the studio's documentary collaboration with the Gajah Mada team won Best AI Documentary Film. Other festival placements followed.

"Cannes was the proof. Not that the tool worked — we knew that. But that the audience couldn't tell. They watched a film. They cried. They didn't care that an agent had storyboarded it. That's when we knew we weren't building software anymore. We were building cinema."

A short interview with the founder

On the core idea.

"Cinema has three problems — pre-production, production, post-production. Every existing tool solves one of them, badly. We are the first team to close all three in a single brain. Not because we're smarter. Because we waited three years to build it properly."

On the difference between Neyra Agent and other 'AI tools'.

"Think of Hermes, or any general agent product. They're brilliant for messages, for code, for tasks. But film is not a task — it's a system. It has emotion math, camera math, sound math, continuity math, color math. Twenty-eight specialties working in sync. Neyra Agent is the orchestra conductor. Not another instrument."

On the 'film as agent' concept.

"This is the part most people miss. We don't think a film is an output. We think the film is an agent. It has its own node. It searches. It analyzes. It thinks. It can connect to its own team. It can improve itself after release. A scene that didn't land in week one can be reworked in week three — without reshoot, without reprint, without losing canon. The film keeps living."

On what comes after the cinema.

"Immersive. A film today ends at the credits. Ours don't. You can step inside them, change perspective, follow a side character, branch the ending. A film can become a game. A game can become a film. The line is gone. We are not building tools for the next decade of cinema — we're building the next medium."

The use cases

Neyra Agent is already powering work across the spectrum of moving image:

  • Independent filmmakers turning loglines into festival-ready shorts in days, not years.
  • Studios rapid-prototyping series and feature treatments before the greenlight committee.
  • Brands and agencies producing premium 30-second to 3-minute campaigns at a fraction of legacy cost — with broadcast-grade color and sound.
  • Documentary teams scoring and reconstructing archival footage with mathematical color fidelity.
  • Animation studios generating full storyboards, character sheets, and 2D / 3D references from a single page of script.
  • Short-form creators producing cinematic vertical reels with proper grading, score, and sound design — at the volume that platforms demand.

"The point isn't speed. The point is that any human, anywhere, can now make the film that's been sitting in their head for ten years. That's the unlock. That is why we built this."

What's next

The studio is preparing to open Neyra Agent to a wider whitelist later this year. A series of public showcases — both finished films and live agent runs — are planned for the autumn festival circuit. And the immersive layer, Nebo hints, is closer than the industry thinks.

"Cinema hasn't changed in a hundred years. The camera got smaller, the screen got bigger, but the loop was the same — shoot, cut, ship. We're breaking the loop. Films that keep filming. Audiences who keep watching, and who keep changing what they're watching. That isn't a feature. That's a new medium."

He smiles.

"And it starts with one sentence in a terminal."
